A friend had mentioned about F.A.B.D. when the conversation turned to wings one night. I had been told they were small but you got a lot of them for a good price. We've driven by F.A.B.D. often taking Frankfort into the city so I checked them out on urban spoon and saw they had great reviews. My parents came into town over Easter and we decided to go there on a Saturday to try out their food.
Driving by F.A.B.D you see it's a dive, that smells amazing. It's very easy to find on Frankfort Avenue, as their are giant smokers with shopping carts of wood right in front of the restaurant. There is table and tall bar seating both inside and out along with bar seating inside. There are a good number of TVs inside as well.
As I said we went on a Saturday, during the never ending rain, but were still able to sit outside as the seating was covered. We got a pitcher of Bud Light to share, which only set us back about $5. I ended up being the only one who wanted wings (per usual) so I got an order of honey chipotle, which sounded like an interesting flavor. I wasn't sure what the order would look like as the menu doesn't say a number or weight, just that smokehouse wings come in five flavors and are $6.50. Courtney ordered the pulled pork sandwich.
$1 RR or PBR cans
We ordered another pitcher while waiting for our food, which ended up coming out quite quickly even though it was fairly busy. The overall service was quite good from our waitress. The wings came with an order of homemade ranch without asking. As you can see from the pictures the wings had just the right amount of sauce on them. They were cooked just right and the sauce was delicious, sweet, but quite hot. While the wings were a bit smaller, there ended up being 19 in my order, which was enough to fill me up.
Courtney and my parents ordered pulled pork and the smoked salmon which were also excellent. The honey chipotle were almost too hot for me so I might suggest trying the mild or one of the other flavors, which I will probably do next time. F.A.B.D. is definitely worth a visit, not just for wings.
The wings break down to about 34 cents, which is a great everyday deal. F.A.B.D. doesn't have a wing night, so if you looking to save a few bucks I suggest checking on their drink specials.
Court's Corner - Not Too Hot!
I tried one of Keith's wings and it was ridiculously hot. I really enjoyed my pulled pork sandwich with the BBQ sauce I put on it. The smoked salmon also looked and smelled delicious and was two huge pieces. If you don't want wings I would suggest trying any of their smoked or BBQ meats or sandwiches.
